Is There A Cure For Graves Disease?
If you have Graves’ Disease, then chances are you have been told by your endocrinologist or general practitioner that there is no cure for this disorder. From a conventional standpoint this is true, and the reason for this is because the different types of medical treatments for this condition do nothing more than manage the symptoms. So with that being said, is there a proven cure for Graves Disease, or is this something you’ll have to live with for the rest of your life?
Being a healthcare professional, and someone who was diagnosed with Graves’ Disease, I can tell you that many people with this condition can have their health restored back to normal. Even better news is that they can accomplish this without the use of drugs, radioactive iodine, or surgery. I’ll share with you how I treated my condition, but let’s first talk about the primary problem with conventional treatment methods.
The Malfunctioning Thyroid Gland Is NOT The Cause Of This Disorder
The problem is that in most cases of Graves’ Disease, the malfunctioning thyroid gland isn’t the actual cause of the problem. Let’s not forget that we are talking about an autoimmune condition. And in just about every case of Graves’ Disease it is the compromised immune system, and/or another area of the body that leads to the malfunctioning thyroid gland.
So for example, if one sees an endocrinologist and is given an anti-thyroid drug, such as Methimazole, this most likely will do a good job of managing their symptoms. These drugs are quite effective in reducing or stopping the production of thyroid hormone, which is produced in excess in people with Graves’ Disease. But this obviously does nothing for the actual cause of the problem, as most people don’t have a “Methimazole deficiency” that is causing their overactive thyroid gland.
Similarly, when an endocrinologist recommends radioactive iodine therapy, this also isn’t actually doing anything for the cause of the disorder. What this treatment method is doing is damaging the thyroid gland, which once again will help reduce or stop the production of thyroid hormone. Of course there is a major side effect here, which is that many people who receive radioactive iodine therapy will become hypothyroid for the rest of their lives, and will therefold be told to take thyroid hormone daily to manage the symptoms.
But once again, this treatment is aimed at the malfunctioning thyroid gland, and won’t do anything to strengthen the weakened immune system. Don’t you think it’s important to address the immune system when you have an autoimmune disorder? Plus, I don’t know about you, but I personally would prefer not to receive any treatment with the word “radioactive” in it.
This Is How To Cure Graves’ Disease:
Before I begin talking about a “Graves Disease Cure”, keep in mind that I’m a biased holistic doctor that personally has had success treating my autoimmune thyroid disorder through natural methods. With that being said, the truth is that not everyone is an ideal candidate for a natural treatment protocol. On the other hand, many people with Graves’ Disease can have their health restored through natural treatment methods, if they follow the advice of a competent natural endocrine doctor.
A competent natural doctor that specializes in endocrine disorders will look at your blood tests, symptoms, and might order some additional tests to get a complete picture of what is happening. A big part of the recovery process has to do with eating better and proper nutritional supplementation. For example, while many doctors assume that people with Graves’ Disease and other hyperthyroid disorders have an excess of iodine, many people with Graves’ Disease are iodine deficient, and thus need to be put on an iodine loading protocol. Other supplements may also be necessary as well.
Just Taking Nutritional Supplements Is Not Enough
But while eating well and taking nutritional supplements and/or herbal remedies plays a big part in restoring one’s health, there are usually other factors that are involved in the recovery process. This is why it is unwise to try treating your condition on your own. Let’s not forget that we’re dealing with a serious autoimmune thyroid condition, and so anyone who thinks they can restore their health back to normal by visiting their local health food store and taking a few supplements will not be happy with the outcome.
You also need to realize that it took time for your condition to develop, and as a result, it will take time to cure any case of Graves’ Disease. So while it took only a few weeks before I began feeling better once I started my natural treatment protocol, it took a few months before the lab results were normal. And even once someone with Graves’ Disease has restored their health back to normal, it is of course important to continue maintaining their health so they won’t suffer a relapse in the future.
In summary, there is a cure for Graves Disease, but one needs to understand that 1) not everyone can be helped through natural treatment methods, and 2) for those that can be helped, it will take time to completely restore their health back to normal, and they need to take responsibility for their health. But those who are dedicated and willing to follow the advice of a competent natural endocrine doctor can truly restore their health back to normal and live a healthy life.
